Ozempic® (semaglutide) injection is a prescription medication used by injection:
- Along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.
- To reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes who have known heart disease.
- It is not known whether Ozempic® can be used in people with pancreatitis.
- Ozempic® is not for use with patients with type 1 diabetes.
- It is not known whether Ozempic® is safe and effective for use in children under 18 years of age.

"What are the possible side effects of Ozembek?"
Before using Ozempic®, tell your healthcare provider if you have any other medical conditions, including if you:
- You had or have had problems with your pancreas or kidneys.
- You have a history of diabetic retinopathy.
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is not known whether Ozempic® will harm your unborn baby or pass into breast milk. You should stop using Ozempic® two months before planning to become pregnant.
- Tell your healthcare provider about all the medications you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, and other medications for diabetes, including insulin or sulfonylureas.
Ozempic® may cause serious side effects, including:
- Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Stop using Ozempic® and contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience severe stomach (abdominal) pain that does not go away, with or without vomiting. You may feel the pain from your abdomen to your back.
- Changes in vision. Tell your healthcare provider if you experience any changes in vision while being treated with Ozempic®.
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). The risk of low blood sugar may be higher if you use Ozempic® with another medicine that can cause low blood sugar, such as sulfonylureas or insulin. Signs and symptoms of low blood sugar may include: dizziness or lightheadedness, blurred vision, anxiety, irritability or mood changes, sweating, slurred speech, hunger, confusion or drowsiness, shakiness, weakness, headache, rapid heartbeat, and feeling nervous.
- Kidney problems (kidney failure). In people with kidney problems, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting can cause fluid loss (dehydration), which can worsen kidney problems. It is important for you to drink fluids to help reduce your chance of becoming dehydrated.
- Serious allergic reactions. Stop using Ozempic® and get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat; trouble breathing or swallowing; rash or severe itching; fainting or feeling dizzy; or rapid heartbeat.
- The most common side effects of Ozempic® may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach (abdominal) pain, and constipation.
